HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
Metal parts are processed in a contactless and precise manner using this process. An electrically conductive electrolyte, saltwater, is introduced between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). This carries the ionized material anodically away in the processing gap between the electrode and the workpiece.
In this process, the electrode is mirrored onto the metal. The targeted current pulse, the oscillating tool electrode, and the very small working gap are the basis for the precision of the technology. The PECM process is an advanced version of electrochemical sinking.
By using a synchronized current pulse and an oscillating tool electrode, PEMTec creates the basis for a very small processing gap. This allows for highly precise and economical manufacturing without process-related tool wear.
Completely contactless and without thermal or mechanical influences, workpieces are produced with an accuracy and repeatability in the lower micrometer range and a surface finish of up to 0.03 μm.
